The Challenge: Re-engaging a Passive Community & Exploring Web3

As France's leading distributor of cultural and tech goods, FNAC boasts a major social media presence, including over 450,000 followers on Twitter/X. However, the brand noticed relative inactivity within this large follower base. FNAC wanted to reconnect with its gamer audience, better understand customer preferences, and take its first steps into the Web3 ecosystem.

Key objectives assigned to PiNGs:

  • Gamify Brand Engagement: Create a fun video game quiz platform to convert passive followers into active daily players.
  • Zero-Friction Data Collection: Effortlessly collect zero-party customer insights through natural game interactions.
  • Gateway to Web3: Develop a wallet connection system and in-game economy tied to a marketplace for blockchain features.
  • Community Co-Design: Involve active gamers in key decisions (game title, UGC questions, end-of-level boss selection) to foster strong emotional ownership.

The Solution: "Make It Quizz"

PiNGs designed Make It Quizz, a hybrid gaming platform blending the mechanics of a 3D board game with fast-paced video game quizzes:

Pillar 1

3D Board & Multi-Format Quizzes

8 themes, 3,000+ questions across 5 styles (multiple choice, audio, visual pictures, timed challenges, Boss fights).

Pillar 2

Wallet Connect & Marketplace

Frictionless wallet integration connecting user ID wallets to game progress, leaderboards, and rewards.

Pillar 3

User-Generated Content (UGC)

In-game question submission module allowing players to contribute content for long-term replayability.

Prototype Showcase & Game Interfaces

Developed in 1.5 months, the game features a vibrant pixel-art aesthetic and retro board game design optimized for both desktop and mobile:

Co-Design Methodology & IPSOS Research

To ensure complete alignment with gamer expectations, PiNGs deployed a user-centric iterative design process:

Co-creation with 50 Alpha Testers

An alpha test was conducted with 50 active community members to refine playability, test leaderboards, and co-select the game name and end-of-level bosses.

10 Qualitative IPSOS Studies

Market research firm IPSOS conducted 10 in-depth qualitative feedback analyses to evaluate game appeal, accessibility, and retention loops.

Alpha-Tester Feedback & Quotes

User testing highlighted high enthusiasm for the visual style, question variety, and competitive mechanics:

"Amazing the FNAC game, love it! Working perfectly on mobile or pc. User interface is awesome, I like it so much."
"Simple and colorful graphics, fun and a return to childhood on certain questions."
"The variation between picture and audio questions is really good. Suitability for all profiles!"
"The game is very addictive and the adrenaline rises quickly! The timer adds a little stress that motivates me to do better."

Strategic Benefits for the Brand

Community Activation

Converts passive social followers into active daily players competing on leaderboards and referring friends.

Frictionless Web3 Gateway

Natural bridge connecting user IDs to blockchain wallets for future marketplace and reward features.
